Hey fellow Irrlichters!

I enter this month's competition with a rather unusual way of utilizing the irrlicht engine. I use it as the central component of a multi-user person tracking system in our company's virtual reality room.
The room has a dimension of roughly 16 by 9 meters and has 6 (the screenshot shows only 5 operational ones) laser rangers installed on the floor. To those of you who don't know, these devices (in this case) scan an angle of 270° (angular resolution of 0.25°) with a range of 30 meters. So you basically get the distance of each measurement at a given angle.
Irrlicht does not only handle the drawing but also the analysis and overlay of the acquired ranger data. Potential object echoes are displayed as small white circles. The screenie shows myself standing in the middle of the room, the echoes clearly matching my feet's positions.

Explanation to the screenshot:
  • The pink box shows the dimensions of the room
  • The IP addresses surrounding it roughly denote each laser's position
  • Whenever a range value is within the space (pink box) it's drawn in red
  • The buttons on the left allow to adjust the properties of the echo detection, the ones to the right are used to modify the lasers' placement.
In its current version the software handles and robustly tracks up to 12 persons, coping well with increasing occlusions. My goal is to push the count to at least 15 users.

I know this is probably not the eye candy you were looking for but it clearly shows irrlicht's versatility. :)

So here's the screenshot:

Thanks for your attention,

Hello,

One of my previous projects... small quick tool to create electrical panels.
Nice colourful renderings that makes you smile.

Lets call it PanelView:

Oh! Sweet!
It creates electrical panels?
Does it also simulate it?

Yes, it is the ultimate simulator of the universe
It just happens to be showing electrical panels in the picture

Step back! I have a void pointer, and I'm not afraid to use it!

you're right, it can calculate and prove Einstein Rosen Bridge... but it only renders some electrical panels.

Does it simulate the behavior of electrical panels. there rephrased it, just for you. otherwise it would seem fairly pointless.

Ok, so I'll rephrase the answer: It just renders the panels. And this is very useful. I've worked with such tools in the past quite a lot, but they only provided 2d. You do the sapce planning with it and hopefully at some point also the cable planning. You can use the renders also for the user manual or for instructions. @Escen: Is it part of a commercial tool?

thank you hybrid. (But now I don't see the point in it :( Well, I might if I ever get a use for such a tool ^^")

Sorry aaammmsterdddam I was not clear enough, This project is more a part of a temporary solution. (applicable for a short year)
We have to re-design seven years of bad electrical designing, Those drawings do not provide any visual panel instruction or are linked to some-sort of decent database.
Production is done by experience, and each panel ever built has its own personality.
With this tool we fulfill the need for unity at this time. Meanwhile we can focus on a complete new electrical design the next coming year. (I'm part of a new group of seven electrical/software engineers in the aerial business)

This tool only reads an existing excel file with terminals ID's and place them next to the panel ready for placements, no simulation.
Amazingly it only took 2 months to build (spare time) including my own database.

It's not a real job but someone has to do it....

Cool. This tool, could be really useful for remote assistance! The hard part would be to simulate (render) the wires connected to the terminals to see if the design will have enough space...
