Free modeling tools from DAZ

Postby CuteAlien » Thu Feb 02, 2012 10:19 am

Just got this info from an artist - DAZ Studio Pro, Bryce 7 Pro and Hexagon 2.5 can now all be downloaded for free (yes - from the official homepage, not from pirate bay). I haven't done yet myself, so not sure if there are any restrictions left (or why they suddenly do that). Also no info yet how/if export from DAZ to Irrlicht is possible. But maybe some of you have fun trying it out?

Post your results if you got any :-)

Very nice promotion. I'll download everything and try to do something with such tools :). A bit curious offer :D maybe there are restrictions on commercial usage.. i will try to see if I find something about
OpenGL is not hard. What you have to do is just explained in specifications. What is hard is dealing with poor OpenGL implementations.

No, the date format is mm/dd/yyyy as it's the american standard way. Last update for Bryce says 09/20/2011 so this seems to be pretty sure that it's not the other way round. Make sure you download before this runs out :-)

IMO they`re just trying to earn popularity in the non-artist users. I don`t know a single (know over 50) artist that likes and/or uses DAZ studio. It`s like FPS Creator or 3d Gamemaker to the programmer. Bryce is maybe better- I`ve used some very old version for a project or two long ago in the past, and it may be useful, never tried the recent versions though. Cannot comment on Hexagon- neither used it or know someone using it.

Hexagon is mainly for organic modeling (according to an artist I know who actually works with DAZ).

seems that for game content creation you need a game developer license. How I hate that >:(

Well, that`s why noone`s using it. :D I want my game content to be unique anyway, even if this means many hours of "extra" work.

I downloaded Bryce and DAZ 4. And as an experinced Blender User, I now know why they put them up for free...
They're awkward to use and lacking in features and capability.

You'd be way better of with Blender I'f you're still looking at this. ;)

You can't restrict the output like that in an EULA in many countries.

Have not found time yet to check the DAZ-tools, but at least in Blender the trick they use is that the result uses a proprietary mesh. And so they can use the copyright from that asset.

I've been using DAZ years before finding Blender, then a few years later finding irrlicht... Yes, each has a learning curve and in the years i've been with them the export formats have increased. Not to mention a few sites that always give away free models for both DAZ and Blender is always a plus.
code happens
