FontMapper - another alternative to irrlicht's font tool

Postby Armen138 » Mon May 24, 2010 7:15 pm

I have recently rewritten my fontMapper tool. Since it supports irrlicht's font format, I thought I'd share it here :)
Note that this is a web-based tool, and requires the HTML5 Canvas.
I have tested this on Windows(7) and Linux, on Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, and it seems to work as it should. Note that at this moment, it does not seem to work at all on Microsoft Internet Explorer and Opera. I'd be interested to know if it works on the Mac versions of Firefox and Safari.

A font generated by this tool loaded in the UI example:

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Nice work armen, I like how the offset takes the drop shadow's blur into account.

Some feature requests:
- Ability to split into multiple images if the font is too large.
- Ability to change preview background color.

Is anyone still using this?
I am in the process of moving my blog to another server, and I'm not sure what to do with this tool.... move it along with the blog as-is, improve it, or remove it entirely...
Any input is appreciated, if nobody replies here I'll remove it until I need it again myself ;)

I just found out about this and I think that you should improve it. It's totally awesome to be able to make fonts in a browser.
That would be illogical captain...

A couple of important announcements for people who use this tool:

- I've created a repository for this tool on github: https://github.com/Armen138/FontMapper
- I've moved the tool to http://dev138.info/fontmapper/
- A few bugs were fixed, and I've added a spiffy checkered background(useful if you need white fonts)
- Anything that had nothing to do with the tool itself is removed from the page

NB. The old location(http://fontmapper.armen138.com) will likely not work anymore in the near future, as I will be shutting down
that hosting account and moving the domain name elsewhere.

Also, if anyone has feature requests or if you find some horrid bugs, please let me know!

Thanks for providing the tool and even the source code! Since i'm developing on 64-Bit Linux there is no other tool i could use for font creation (since the irrlicht tool doesn't write proper XML files in 64-Bit Linux). I really appreciate your work! :)

Oh nice. HTML 5 is very nice language. Your tool is working on windows vista 32 bit and windows 7 64 bit correctly :)
OpenGL is not hard. What you have to do is just explained in specifications. What is hard is dealing with poor OpenGL implementations.
