Another bugfix release is available at http://dustbin-online.de/download/marbles3.zip: the "enable online ranking" button in the result display of the time trial didn't work. This is now fixed

Uploaded a new update to http://dustbin-online.de/download/marbles3.zip: for multiplayer games (splitscreen / network) you can now turn other marbles transparent. I hope this helps keeping track of your marble. By default this feature is disabled and can be activated in the settings menu. Do you like this feature? Might turn it on by default if so ;)

I am currently uploading a new version to https://dustbin-online.de/download/marbles3.zip with the following changes: I have added a "search online" checkbox to the "ghost selection dialog" shown before starting a time trial. I think it's important to make the workflow simpler so that the user actually downloads ghosts to race against (online ghosts are highlighted with red text):

Image

As I don't like too many options to do the same thing in an application I have removed some features from the "online" --> "ghosts" dialog. In this dialog you only see the latest uploads and can no longer query the ghosts of a specific track

I just uploaded a new version to http://dustbin-online.de/download/marbles3.zip: If you now do a time trial with an active ghost the time difference between you and the ghost will be shown during racetime (red means you are slower, green means you are faster);

Hi,

I made an update to "Stunt Marble Racers 2": I tuned the physics simulation so that now I'm really pleased with how the marbles roll ;). Random jumps have been decreased a lot so now it's even more fun to play. The new version is ready for download at https://www.dustbin-online.de/

I also made a new trailer you can watch on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki3nMgu2OtI.

Hope you like the game and the trailer

A new version of "Stunt Marble Racers 2" is available at https://www.dustbin-online.de/: this time I just fixed an issue with a track where one of the players in multiplayer games (Player 4) was looking into the opposite direction when the game was started. Hope you enjoy the game.

Hi, just have uploaded a new version of "Stunt Marble Racers 2" to https://www.dustbin-online.de/ . This time I added a championship mode. Currently it's only available in splitscreen mode, so the next task will be to add it to network games as well. After each race every player gets points for his positions (e.g. 1st - 4 points, 2nd - 2 points, 3rd - 1 point, 4th - 0 points) to calculate the standings. If two players have the same amount of points the player with more wins is ranked higher, if they have the same number of wins the number of second place finishes is used and so on.

A new version is ready for download on https://www.dustbin-online.de/.

- added indicators for split times: if the time in the last split was the fastest of your session you'll see a green rectangle, a red one is used otherwise

Image

- added the championship mode to network gaming

And I put some work into all tracks: adjusted the respawn points so that you don't fall down some meters when respawning

A new version of "Stunt Marble Racers 2" is available for download from https://www.dustbin-online.de/ .
- Fixed a crash in the client during network games
- Reduced the brake power
- Modified some tracks (Stepstones, Steep Circle): In stepstones you could save time by respawning, steep circle just needed more checkpoints

I have just uplaoded a new version of "Stunt Marble Racers 2" to https://www.dustbin-online.de/: added a low-quality shadow shader suitable for low-power GPU. Tried it on my old notebook (from 2012) with Intel GPU and I got a decent framerate. I hope you like it. Just have to fix the position of the light sources ;)

If you want to perform "low quality" shadows, you could stick to a single shadowmap sample, without PCF, and disable the texture filtering, the rounded shapes on the edges of the shadow map are due to the filtering, which is still being performed, even if it contributes very little to the shadowmap quality. Also, a good trick for shadowmaping with which is capable of providing very decent results is to jitter the samples around the point whose shadow you're calculating. That way, the only diference when you calculate a more complex shadowmaping is in the amount of samples, which would produce a softer result.

Also, Exponential shadowmaps have a very good performance. they can make use of the texture filtering, so they can provide soft shadows with a single sample (no PCF needed). They need a bit of tweak, but can be very efficient, and they're not so modern of a technique, so older hardware may run it just fine.

Thanks for the hint, I'll take a look into the article when I have time to do so (still a lot of other project-related tasks open ;), and some real-world life also needs to be attended :D)

Hello community,

just uploaded a new version of "Stunt Marble Racers 2" to https://www.dustbin-online.de/. This time it's a minimal update with some graphics fixes in the menu, and I integrated a new marble ready for individualization (do you like it?)
