SuperTuxKart 0.8.1 Released

Hi all,

We are very proud to announce release 0.8.1 of SuperTuxKart:

It has taken us a rather long time for a minor release, but most of the developers have been rather busy with mentoring students for the “Google Summer of Code 2013”. On the other hand, we had many contributions from new developers. Here a list of most important changes:
  • * New track STK Enterprise
    * Updated tracks “The old mines”, “Lighthouse”, “Zen Garden”
    * New game modes “Soccer”and “Egg Hunt”
    * New karts Xue and Sara
    * Updated Beastie kart
    * Added Tutorial
    * Added new Supertux difficulty
    * Wiimote support
    * New bubblegum shield weapon
    * New speedometer and nitro meter
    * Add ability to filter addons
    * Updated nitro models
    * Added ability to save and resume Grand Prix
    * Improved skid marks and nitro effects

Had one irritating interface problem which took me a while to figure out. My game-pad had the menu-selection button on the same button (1) as the one needed to get back on track. So every time in story-mode when I tried to enter the tutorial I just did fly a little bit and then was placed back somewhere. Once I figured out I could use "space" and really to a tutorial it was fun. But same problem there - when the final dialog was open and I pressed my button 1 to continue (which worked in all other dialogs) I did again just fly and had to play the tutorial again.

edit: OK, I now noticed what I was doing wrong - it wants the fire-button int he overview map. Which is different from the menu-selection button. Maybe you should just allow to use any button once people are inside the selection sphere :-) But I think the other problem - a conflict between menu-selection button and back-on-track button in the dialog at the end of the tutorial was real (had it twice).

Not played yet much because of this I thought maybe I do something wrong and did try to open tracks by playing single races (which obviously did nothing). Also had one crash in the menues, but couldn't reproduce yet - will tell when I can.

Aside from that it looked good as always so far - will play some more :-)
