I picked the right day to ask, apparently. Very excited to learn more! Are you using PolyVox for your voxel engine, or is this something custom?

Damn, from the earlier pictures it looked great, but seeing a YAMC (Yet Another Minecraft Clone) really disappointed me...

Are battlefield and Call of Duty etc. clones of Doom? Or are they distinctive games in the same genre?

Is Infiniminer a clone of LEGO? Is Minecraft a clone of Infiniminer? Or are they distinctive games in the same genre?

Over the next 6-12 monts as the game progresses, you can judge Build A World by its contents...

I thought you might have guessed by the name "Build a World" was likely to be similar to Minecraft.
Or were you expecting more along the lines of Second Life or something?

I wont comment on the actual project yet.
Screenshots from WIP projects just dont excite me anymore as they used to in past years
I guess I've seen too many vapourware and failures in my lifetime to bother giving myself false hope anymore.

All the best though, I hope you actually finish it to the level of quality you believe you can deliver :)

Graphics certainly...

gently caress if you dont like nearest neighbour interpolated voxels, you'll get lua or something within the next couple of years and you can implement marching tetraheadrons

you can also piss around trying to solve the differential equations for bicubically intepolated heightfields so one can do parallax mapping on them

Sounds like fun. Curious why you did not use PolyVox though. Did you write your own noise library as well?
