SKY DEVIL: Stairway to Heaven

Hi,

Today we released our game called "SKY DEVIL: Stairway to Heaven" at AppStore:

From technical side I can say that we used following libraries in our production: Irrlicht Engine (latest ogl-es branch + my patch for compressed pvr textures, if someone need this or similar functionality I can release this patch on this forum), Bullet Physics, FreeType, OpenAL, Vorbis Sound, Angelscript, Boost and some materials from Cg Textures :)

In near future we'll also release a version of our game for PC (Windows, Linux, OSX).

At this point I would like to thank whole Irrlicht community for the development of this great graphic engine! and for authors of libraries and material which we used in this game! :)

Gratulations. I got no iPhone but screenshots look nice. Also good background story, demons fighting for redemption - this must be made into a movie! :-)

Congrats on the release :)

I've hopped through 3 projects this year yet only managed to get one release
trying to rush through projects doesn't pay, especially when modellers and artists do shoddy jobs or dont believe in deadlines :evil:

anyway

I tried out your game and need to mention two pointers:

App icon:
the looks boring, you should think about making a more interesting icon which doesn't have only two letters on it

marketing:
I'm not sure you will see much sales at all, though I could be wrong.

Its a fun game (for a very short time), but I've been studying the appstore market for long enough to know that consumers are usually spoilt brats who want to try out new stuff for free and usually dont want to pay for games that dont seem they will last longer than 10minutes.

If sales are good for you, then great! dont change anything
otherwise you should think about making it free and getting money from iADs or iAP

but seriously, you should definitely change the app icon if you don't do anything else for this game


from a tech perspective: the game is solid.
audio, controls, rendering..., the engine under the hood (ie, irrlicht plus boltons) does its job well on iOS

good luck with your other stuff ;)

We are beginners on iOS market so very thanks for share Your experiences. In first days of new year we should release an improved version (mainly improvements in scale proportions on iPads and iPhone 5) of our game (icon will be changed too). I also will remember about Your suggestions for sale.

Ok... I got to heaven :-) Graphics and game background story are nice. I fear the boing-boing control system on the other hand is not exactly going to set a new standard in the gaming world...

Thanks :) We know that this isn't the most advanced game on the world, but we try to increase complexity of our game in each next title. Sky Devil was the first product of my current game dev team, so we wanted to create simple game, where we can test our engine under several platforms. Anyway in future we want to produce advanced games.

Our account has expired in november and due to re-organisation (personal changes and new name for our team) we need new Apple Account (we'll move old games to the new account in upcoming weeks - we have to finalise all documents related to register account).

I can't wait for the windows phone version :D

No honestly I can't. grr can't even develop for my phone because I insist on sticking to windows 7 and you can't make a windows phone 8.1 game unless you have windows 8 at least.
No wonder nobody is making any decent games for the Nokia Lumia. Other than that it is a solid phone.

On a side note how do you develope for IOS. Do you need some kind of emulation or something?

Hi,

Currently we don't have in plans to support Windows Phone, at first we have to add WinRT and finish D3D11 driver support in Irrlicht.

For test iOS port I use real devices - iPod 4 in past and now iPad Mini 2 and MacBook with OSX for development. Of course I use ogl-es branch for this game and OGL ES2 driver.
