I'd love to get some of this sort of stuff into IrrAI at some point but who knows if i'll ever have time for that!

This kinda thing with neural networks and genetic algorithms can often be very hit and miss so is often steered well clear of in games as you basically need to have guaranteed results (i.e. the AI will actually work properly and you don't want to be training your AI for months to then end up with nothing) and it can be pretty hard for testing as well to know that it's gonna work all the time.

Yeah, hard not to wonder about that sometimes as programmer. That time when AI's where born and the virtual world took over etc - it sounds like something AI's might want to simulate for interest/learning or just play for fun for a long time. And it kinda looks like we live exactly in that time... it is somewhat suspicious :-)
