free 3D Modeler to do models for Irrlicht

Post by psimon68 »

Hi there,

Question 1:
I would like to do a little board game in 3D with Irrlicht.
The thing is: where can I get a (most wanted: free/open source)
3D Modeler that can export to .md2 or a format that Irrlicht supports?

Any recommendations?

Q2: (side aspect)
when browsing the web in search of an engine I read about .md3
(QIII-Models) format. Any plans to support it in Irrlicht?

Q3: (side aspect)
Been working with gmax some. It's a free subset of Discreets 3ds max.
Very powerful GUI. So will Irrlicht support .gmax format someday?

Thx

the problem with gmax as i understand it is that while the 3d editor is free, the company charges any developer who supports the format within their project.

Thanx for the valuable input folks :)

I've seen both on the web already.
Will try them out.

thanks for the special info on gmax.
Too but that is a knock out criteria for gmax.
I tried it out and it felt really nice to use :(

I am using Anim8oR. It is a very decent 3d modeller with lots of features for character animation. Hope Irrlicht engine will support its format soon.It can also do 3ds export.

With GMax the developer has to licence the plugin allowing GMax to export/save the file format. Gmax (from memory) will read in .3ds but that is about it, unless you have a plugin to allow saving..

Best choice is Milkshape3d by far.. cheap and is a good modeler for doing low polygon meshes, and has bone/IK support, makes life easy...
